Project Number: 2021-1-PT01-KA220-HED-000023543

Funding: Erasmus+

Duration: Janeiro 2022 – Agosto 2024

Partnership: Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal), Universidade da Macedónia (Greece), Associação BioLiving (Portugal), Gabinete de Recolocación Industrial (Spain)

The Project

Back2Basics: Bridging the gap between higher education and labor market by fostering digital skills was a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and was BioLiving's fifth European project. Coordinated by the University of Aveiro, its partners were the Associação BioLiving, from Portugal; the University of Macedonia, from Greece; and the Gabinete de Recolocación Industrial, from Spain.

The pandemic context has made it clear that many teachers in Higher Education (HE), forced to adapt their daily work to onlineenvironments, lack ‘digital readiness’, which has resulted in many failed attempts to adapt, work overload and stress. In this way, a persistent problem of HE systems has been highlighted: if teachers are not digitally prepared, they are also not passing on important and valuable digital competences to their students for work.

HE students use information and communication technology (ICT) tools on a daily basis, but not in a professional way, and the majority of students lack professional digital skills that would improve their employability profile. This is particularly important given that many companies are adopting a more digital way of working. In addition, many students lack basic notions of ‘netiquette’, onlinecommunication and behaviour, which also contributes to reducing their employability.

Back2Basics project aimed to address digital transformation in the HE system and bring HE systems closer to labour markets by improving digital skills in higher education through the training of teachers and graduates. The consortium partners intended to present possible methodologies to adopt in order to create a real change in HE systems, making them more modern and aligned with the needs of the labour market.

Green inspiration from all over Europe!

The NGEurope Observatory is an online platform integrated into the project's website that allows us to share success stories from the five partner countries. These NGOs range from more local associations to those working at a national level and which we consider to be examples of success due to their mode of action, management or impact on the communities in which they operate.

This platform contains basic information on the various NGOs: areas of activity, projects developed and underway, funding mechanisms, partnerships, etc.

We want this dissemination platform to be a bridge of contact between NGOs and potential volunteers or even potential partners. Explore and be inspired!

Available outputs

On the project's website you will find various resources that you can consult and download for free:

  1. Training course for university professors and other educators with the aim of addressing the different digital skills valued by the labour market and how these skills can be promoted in the classroom.
  2. Handbook about Online Communication and Netiquette, aiming to help young people understand the importance of good institutional communication, to develop a more professional image and to provide tips on digital institutional communication, which are important in professional environments.
  3. Multimedia Package: Digital Skills for Higher Education Students, which includes 10 short videos and 5 infographics aimed at inspiring young people to proactively acquire the digital skills needed to navigate the labour market.
  4. Guide to Cybersecurity, which provides practical advice and best practices for mitigating online risks and threats.
  5. Pilot programme developed at the two partner universities with the aim of encouraging teachers to implement innovative digital teaching techniques, tools and resources.
