The Project
Grey4Green – Senior volunteers for nature conservation was a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and was BioLiving's sixth European project. Coordinated by FO-Aarhus, an NGO from Denmark, its partners are Associação BioLiving and the Municipality of Lousada, from Portugal; the Association des Agences de la Democratie Locale, from France; the Centre for Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology Ltd - Cardet, from Cyprus; and the Icelandic Environment Agency, from Iceland.
Population ageing is a global phenomenon with major implications for all sectors of society. Due to low birth rates, rising average life expectancy and the dynamics of migration flows, the world's population is ‘greying’, and Europe is no exception. The ageing of the population brings with it social, health and economic issues, among others. In all countries, measures to help the elderly remain active and participatory are a necessity, not a luxury. The UN and the European Commission agree that quality ageing is everyone's responsibility (private, public and civic actors), and can only be created and sustained through the participation of multiple sectors.
On the other hand, the environment and the fight against climate change are a constant issue that requires urgent action, with the involvement of all sectors in society.
With this in mind, the Grey4Green project aims to promote active ageing and social inclusion, and to contribute to climate action by involving senior citizens in nature conservation volunteer programmes and by training staff working in the elderly sector to develop and implement such programmes. It also aims to support adult learning (seniors and staff working with seniors) through high-quality training and international exchanges, promoting essential competences and skills, while valuing seniors and their full potential as productive citizens and agents of change.
Green inspiration from all over Europe!
The NGEurope Observatory is an online platform integrated into the project's website that allows us to share success stories from the five partner countries. These NGOs range from more local associations to those working at a national level and which we consider to be examples of success due to their mode of action, management or impact on the communities in which they operate.
This platform contains basic information on the various NGOs: areas of activity, projects developed and underway, funding mechanisms, partnerships, etc.
We want this dissemination platform to be a bridge of contact between NGOs and potential volunteers or even potential partners. Explore and be inspired!
